  • My Class Needs Spheros to explore programming and coding

    Launched November 28th, 2016 Project Deadline May 19th, 2017

    My Students

The major goal of this Makerspace, is to promote STEAM to the newest generation. With an ever-expanding industry, technology is not always the easiest for an individual to keep up with; but with a space in our school devoted to computer technology and software we can start to fill this gap. Students are always looking for ways to do videography, record music and start programming robots. This space will give them this opportunity.

How will this project impact them?

As we have started a division wide Maker Day, I believe that installing a room for inquiry based learning with technology is essential. We would be able to build a group of students that would be able to pass their knowledge along to other students at the elementary schools. Basically we will be preparing students to run Maker Days at other schools.

    Project Report

    from Ms. Mcknight

We have an passion block and our science classes using the spheros for motion testing. They are calculating speed, acceleration and friction effects.
Our high school is 75 students from grade 7-12 and we have minimal funding for technology. This project being granted has allowed our students the opportunity to keep up with the other children in higher socioeconomic zones.
The students have become emersed in the sphero work and take it upon themselves to work on any non class time they have. It is amazing to come into my class at 8 am to see several students working with the spheros and creating the ramps for speed testing.
