  • My Class Needs devices that can be coded to allow for purposeful & creative learning

    My Students

I am a Special Education teacher and a Grade One teacher at my school. We have students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. I work alongside all of my colleagues in my role, and I directly teach 21 Grade One children. My hope is to acquire several robots for our students to have a hands on experience at coding through creative play.

How will this project impact them?

Coding is a new focus in Education in British Columbia, but we currently only have 8 devices to which we can use to code. We do have iPads to download the free apps for the robots, but we need the robots/devices in order to code with our students. My hope is that we are funded and that several can be purchased and shared with our staff and students.

    Project Report

    from Mrs. Unger

Thank you so much, My Class Needs, for funding this project. We have several students who require extra support with their learning. When they have earned breaks, they have really enjoyed working with the Spheros and Code-a-pillar. At first, they mostly played with the devices, but we are beginning to see real coding happen. It's very exciting for these kids and it's generated a lot of excitement. Also, none of our students had ever experienced these robots before. Many, many thanks!

Quotes from students: when do I get a turn? What do I have to do to get some robot time!
(Working with robots was very motivating).

We are beginning to code "I made my sphero do this pattern."

    "I can show you."
    "Let me try."
"Next time I want to made an obstacle course". (I love that!)

My job was so much more interesting with the robots. Thank you!

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
