  • My Class Needs yoga balls to help inattentive students self-regulate.

    Launched October 11th, 2016 Project Deadline May 19th, 2017
Classroom Size 20 Students School Size 680 Students

    My Students

I have a grade 3 class, of active learners. My students are interested in hands-on learning, however sometimes they need to sit down and complete assignments at their desk. This is proving to be difficult, due to several students with attentional difficulties.

How will this project impact them?

I have seen classrooms have great success, with yoga balls, as seats, rather than chairs. Your donation would help my students self-regulate, and receive the sensory input they need to remain seated. I know my classroom would greatly benefit from this, as students would be able to complete assignments at their desk, rather than needing to go for an exercise break. This donation could potentially increase students' confidence in themselves, as they would learn to make the connection between learning and their sensory needs.

    Project Report

    from Mrs. Jeffries

#TeamJeffries would like to thank you for your generous donation towards “Balancing Learning”. This gift has greatly impacted our school community, by helping my students self-regulate, and receive the sensory input they need to remain seated. My classroom has greatly benefitted from this. Students are more capable of completing assignments at their desk, rather than needing to go for an exercise break, as before. When I asked students whether they preferred the balance balls to chairs, the feedback was overwhelming! "I feel like I can listen to the teacher for longer, because I don't feel jittery anymore"; "It's easier for me to write longer, because I feel cozy"; "Classroom discussions are more fun, because I can turn around to see who is talking, more easily".We rotated the balls between groups throughout the day, and the students were so excited, when it was their turn. I am confident that your donation could have the potent to increase students' confidence in themselves, as they would learn to make the connection between learning and their sensory needs. We received the Yoga balls in May, and have used them everyday, on a rotating basis. Follow me on Twitter to see your donation in action. @JenniferL1973

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.

I have loved my 18 years experience as a Catholic Elementary teacher, in my hometown of Bradford West Gwillimbury. This community has changed so much, since I was a child. It used to be a small farming town, & has evolved into a bustling community of diverse cultures & languages. After ...
