Hockey is Canada's sport. Most males love to play hockey. We need introduce, teach and play this great game but with equipment that is much more suitable for all PE secondary students. Floor ball sticks allow all students, male, female and special needs the opportunity to play and be successful in this game we all love.

How will this project impact them?

The skills and drills done throughout rinks all across Canada can now be utilised in the gymnasium with students of all ages, gender and abilities. The equipment is size appropriate for all ages and sizes.

    Project Report

    from Mr. Johnson

I would like to thank you for the generous donation to Earl Marriott Secondary Physical Education Department which bought a class set of floor ball sticks for our students. Obviously, hockey is a very popular sport in Canada and that is no different in our school. The problem is that with wide range of ability, size and gender, playing hockey or teaching hockey can be very challenging.

The sticks we were able to purchase and now provide to our students have brought a new energy and excitement about playing, teaching and learning about this modified hockey game. The sticks are being used by students 8-12 and even more impressive if they are being utilised from our female students and classes where not many of the students have experienced playing hockey before. Advanced to novice players are learning and mastering new skills and techniques with these sticks. There is not as much intimidation for students who did not grow up playing hockey regularly as some of the other students. The equipment is size appropriate for some of the younger students and with that the students are seeing a greater amount of achievement and success. Many students have commented that they struggled to use such a large stick in the past but now they are feeling comfortable and they feel as though the stick and game of floor ball provides a more inclusive and level playing environment. Even some of the hockey stars in the school have commented on how much fun the game is and they see some great benefits to stick handling for the floor ball sticks.

As the department head from Earl Marriott and as a student who grew up not playing hockey, I would like to thank you on behalf of our school for your generous donation to our PE Department.
