  • My Class Needs transportation to allow us access to the glacier/learning

    Launched February 14th, 2018 Project Deadline April 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 59 Students School Size 377 Students

    My Students

My Grade 8 students come from middle to lower class families in the Edson and surrounding areas. I have all ability and learning styles represented in my class. These students excel when given hands on or experiential learning opportunities so taking them to the Athabasca Glacier and physically showing them the concepts they are learning from the textbook has a profoundly positive impact on their comprehension and overall learning. The challenge I have is with transportation of my students.

How will this project impact them?

Students will see first hand the ideas presented in the textbook, thus making them more meaningful and easier to remember. In addition I find that seeing in person the environmental impact global warming is causing the glacier has an impact on the kids. Many students their views on global warming and the role themselves/their family may play in it. Many students become more environmentally aware and responsible because of this experience.
