  • My Class Needs Photography Equipment to Promote inclusion

Expressing Emotions through Photography Classroom Project at Elgin Park Secondary
    Launched December 19th, 2017 Project Deadline May 18th, 2018
Classroom Size 9 Students School Size 1296 Students

    My Students

My students are in grades 8-12. They all suffer from anxiety or other mental health conditions. Many have a very hard time explaining their feelings verbally but are able to do so artistically. The students enjoy photography. I feel that they would benefit from having the opportunity to show their feelings through photography.

How will this project impact them?

I plan to use photography in my classroom giving my students the opportunity to experience therapeutic photography in order to promote social inclusion. Students will be asked to create a series of photos that speak to who they are as individuals. The photos will be framed and displayed in the school with a short explanation about what the artist was trying to portray in the picture. The main goal of this project is to provide my students with alternative ways to explain their thoughts and feelings in a creative way. I believe the short term benefits to this project are reducing social inclusion by having my students become more involved in the school community. The long term benefits to this program are allowing my students to creativity express their feelings in order to produce positive changes in their lives. This project would impact the whole school because it would promote mental health awareness.
