  • My Class Needs STEM resources to to empower and engage all students

    Launched November 21st, 2017 Project Deadline February 19th, 2018

    My Students

Our junior and senior kindergarten community is made of a diverse group of students who enjoy building, exploring, and learning together. We are preparing our youngest generation for unknown professions and feel it is imperative to fuel children’s curiosity and appetite for learning. This love of learning, along with the skills to communicate, problem-solve, collaborate and self-regulate, will lead to life-long success no matter their path in life.

How will this project impact them?

Whether creating works of art or engaging in STEM activities, children experiment, test ideas, and build their understanding of the world using open-ended materials. Oral language and literacy skills are developed as they play with others and share what they have learned. Through our play-based kindergarten program, students are given regular opportunities to explore with open-ended materials which encourage imagination, problem solving and creativity. We strive to empower and engage all students to be contributing, creative and critical thinkers who collaborate and communicate. We have limited resources and funding to provide learning experiences using technology like Bee-Bots or Dash and Dot and would love to give a our students a chance to explore and build coding skills using programmable robots and related technology.

I have been teaching at St. John XXIII School for the last 13 years. My heart is in the primary division, as I have spent all these years in 1/2 day kindergarten, Grade 1 and Full Day Kindergarten (for the last 5 years). I love exploring and learning with my kindergarteners as we make ...
