  • My Class Needs Blue Bots to improve critical thinking skills

    Launched November 7th, 2017 Project Deadline February 5th, 2018
Classroom Size 18 Students School Size 620 Students

    My Students

I have a very active class of 18 Grade 1 students who love to learn through hands-on exploration. Many of the students are not used to taking-risks or depending upon their own critical thinking skills to solve every day problems. I also have a non-verbal student with special needs who is highly motivated by the use of technology. We have had great success developing a growth mindset through project-based learning using technology.

How will this project impact them?

When my students use technology to explore in Math, I see more risk-taking and a willingness to persevere when solving problems. Through coding, my students are learning to share their thinking, and communicate their learning in new and exciting ways. They have a greater willingness to share their ideas with others when they are enthusiastically engaged with technology. Our goal as a school is to move away from teaching and assessment that focuses on knowledge, and towards giving students the opportunity to show their thinking, application, and communication skills. Introducing Blue Bots will allow me to combine engaging technology with their developing coding skills. I am hoping that my class will then become the "experts", sharing their knowledge with other classes, and paving the way for 21st Century thinking across our school.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
