  • My Class Needs Dash Robots to engage in project-based learning

    Launched November 2nd, 2017 Project Deadline December 31st, 2017
Classroom Size 18 Students School Size 620 Students

    My Students

I have used Dash with great success for project-based learning with my Gr. 1's in the past. The students are highly engaged and motivated to take risks when using technology. We have several students with special needs and Dash and Dot are very user-friendly. Our ESL students find communicating through Dash and Dot to be a safe and non-threatening way of expressing themselves. We currently share one Dash/Dot combo at our school. My class is always disappointed when he leaves!

How will this project impact them?

The ability to create cross-curricular, project-based learning tasks using such engaging technology is amazing to behold! I noticed a drastic change in my class' way of thinking after their very first challenge using Dash and Dot. They immediately saw the benefits of trial and error, and began to take risks much more frequently. Suddenly I had "student experts" who were eager to help one another and share their ideas - even the introverts! Because students feel a sense of control when coding, but are removed from "failure" when Dash makes a mistake, the outcome is always positive. Having access to several Dash robots would allow more students to work on a project at the same time, in greater depth, and much more frequently. We would also be able to give other grades an opportunity to use Dash and Dot, and showcase our learning to the parent community at school events.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.

I am a Gr. 1 teacher in Nobleton, Ontario. I believe that the top priority of teachers should be to create an atmosphere of trust and support; a place students are excited to come to every day and where they can feel good about who they are. Each student brings unique ideas and experi...
