  • My Class Needs resources for writing to improve spelling and conventions.

    My Students

My students are in Grade 3 and are full of energy, kindness and an eagerness to learn. Hyde Park Public School is only 4 years old and as a relatively new school we are still trying to build our library of resources for students.

How will this project impact them?

My goal is to improve students understanding of writing conventions. I want to focus on teaching spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar in a meaningful, fun way where students enjoy acquiring these important skills. My students have great ideas and I want others to be able to read their fabulous thoughts. Many of my students struggle to spell words correctly and are not applying their knowledge of punctuation, capitalization and grammar. I would like to set up centres where students are given an opportunity to practice and develop these skills. While students are working at these centres this will give me an opportunity to work with small groups of students and do guided lessons with them and clarify and misconceptions. My hope is that by the end of the school year, my students independent writing will have proper conventions and improved spelling.
