    My Students

    Students in Electrotech 11 and Applied Networking 11 are engineering and tech inspired students that enjoy every opportunity to work with hands-on activities. They are curious as to how control systems function and how the Internet of Things surrounds their everyday life. The goals are to expose students to real-life control systems, engage students in coding in Python and C and provide a project based environment where challenging problems require collaboration and teamwork to be successful.

    How will this project impact them?

    Currently there is a significant void in terms of the number of hands-on STEAM activities for students at Halifax West High School. It is my hope the Raspberry Pi and the Arduino can bring amazing project opportunities to our students that are diverse in nature and attainable by all students regardless of experience or background knowledge. This project will see students design, build and code control systems and experiment with the Internet of Things. They will design and build projects like: Environmental Monitoring System that can detect pollutants, temperature and humidity. The data will be captured and recorded for real-time analysis. There is an opportunity to expand this project to other sites beyond our school property and host on a web server. Self-Driving Car by employ the HC-SCR04 ultrasonic sensor, Pi Camera module and Arduino.
