  • My Class Needs hands-on science and stem equipment to allow inquiry & experiential learning

    Launched October 31st, 2017 Project Deadline January 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 1200 Students

    My Students

Carson Graham is a public secondary school located in on the North Shore in British Columbia. I teach science 8, Earth Science 11, and Geology 12 classes. The class sizes that I teach are approximately 30 students, sometimes going up to class sizes of 34. The students I teach have a wide variety of leaning styles and backgrounds, but they work hard, have great personalities and are respectful learners. With such large class sizes, it would be helpful to be able to experience hands-on concepts!

How will this project impact them?

Geology and Earth Science are hands-on, experiential classes, and the more variety of STEM experiences the better! Each of the varied geology samples, models, and equipment illustrate unique aspects of inquiry-based science. BC has a unique geological setting, with a complex history and potential earthquake hazards. With the BC curriculum changing, Science 8 now has a geology unit! Fossils allow students to experience Earth's geologic past. Hand lenses allow for students to explore the minerals in detail. All of these elements will really add invaluable samples and technological tools to my classroom.
