  • My Class Needs Smart phones (possibly refurbished) to Run VR helmets for all students

    My Students

I have a classroom set of VR helmets. The type that require users to use their own phones, however. This presents some challenges: some students cannot afford their own phones; many of the best educational apps are not free and it is not fair to expect all students to purchase them. We would like to purchase several smartphones to permanently reside in some helmets that way, we can purchase the educational apps we need for them. The wonder of VR inspires kids at all grade levels.

How will this project impact them?

I have seen first hand how the wonders of VR can inspire my students in their learning of science. My students are not just consumers or VR, but many are now producers as well: creating 3-D videos with our 3-D camera. It is sometimes difficult, however, to share the experiences with students who do not have their own smartphones. Having some helmets with phones permanently installed would open up these experiences to every one. In addition, it would allow us to broaden the range of experiences students can have - as many of the best educational apps cost money and having the paid apps on these permanently installed phones would aid us greatly. Thank you to everyone who considers our request. If we reach our goal, we promise to "pay it forward" by developing more educational VR content.
