  • My Class Needs scientific calculators to engage students in math lessons

    Launched October 26th, 2017 Project Deadline January 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 1200 Students

    My Students

My classes consist of Grade 9, 10 and 11 students. Many of these students have developed negative feelings towards mathematics and fear it. They have diverse educational backgrounds, as well as economic ones. Many of them have learning disabilities and designations. My hope is to create more hands on learning opportunities that will keep them engaged in learning.

How will this project impact them?

By providing scientific calculators to my students they will be re engaged and enjoy mathematics more. They will not be afraid to tackle the big problems and will learn how to use a calculator properly and strategically. I want these students to learn more practical ways to demonstrate their skills, and to be able to solve problems efficiently and practically. Many of them do not know their basic times tables so they fear computational skills. By providing calculators and teaching them how to use them properly and at the right times they will begin to think more positively about math and have more success in the long run.
