  • My Class Needs makerspace materials to inspire our learning and discoveries

    My Students

Regardless of income, ethnicity or needs, we firmly believe that our students can break all barriers at Queen Mary. The students in my class, specifically, exemplify this. Within this group, there are ESL, special needs and low income students eager to explore everything in our new makerspace. They love to use the iPads in new and exciting ways. We are hoping for this grant to increase our engagement in literacy activities and showcase new ways of learning through robotics and coding!

How will this project impact them?

The resources I have requested will allow students to gain exposure to new technologies. They will develop a basic understanding of coding and construction through hands-on experiences. It is important for the students in my class to gain an understanding of the presence computer technology, and flexible thinking has in today's world. With limited funding and resources in our school and community, it is imperative that my students practice skills that are required in the future. Coding, problem solving and innovation are all skills students practice in makerspace. They love developing their own ideas and following through with a plan that they have created. I have seen an increase in confidence and engagement since opening our makerspace area. At the moment, we are using basic, found materials to make our ideas come to life; therefore, with these new materials, who knows where we can go!
