    My Students

Regardless of income, ethnicity or needs, we firmly believe that our students can break all barriers at Queen Mary. The students in my class, specifically, exemplify this. Within this group, there are ESL, special needs and low income students eager to explore everything in our new makerspace. They love to use the iPads in new and exciting ways. We are hoping for this grant to increase our engagement in literacy activities and showcase new ways of learning through robotics and coding!

How will this project impact them?

Coding is one of the most engaging opportunities students can be a part of. With our limited resources in our grade one class, it is difficult to have students consistently practice their coding skills; therefore, an insurgence of coding products and robotics will excite and inspire my students' insatiable desire for innovation and discovery. It is my primary objective to have students gain foundational skills in computer technology. Many students in our community are unable to access such products, therefore, I feel it is my job to allow them these experiences as much as possible. To describe the feeling when you see these students working together on a project that they designed, tested and presented is unparalleled. Integrating technology, such as Osmo and Cubelets, into our program will only support students' self-directed learning further.
