  • My Class Needs a touchscreen tablet to serve the needs of students

    Launched October 30th, 2017 Project Deadline January 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 1470 Students

    My Students

I teach approximately 180 students in Grade 8, 10, and 12 with a myriad of profiles. Some require supplemental material to enrich their understanding while others need extra assistance with basic numeracy tasks. Moreover, learning styles vary significantly from those who thrive by being more "hands on", while others prefer visuals and multimedia. By employing an authentic education through choices in course content and teaching strategies, I am able to best meet the needs of my students.

How will this project impact them?

The requested touchscreen tablet will be a useful tool to support differentiated instruction. Students are put into teams based on common learning styles so as to provide them with corresponding activities that can be completed on the tablet. These include, but are not limited to, math videos (visual and auditory learners) and games (kinesthetic learners). Furthermore, members of my department host a wealth of interactive course related content on our blogs. Utilizing a tablet in the classroom allows students to access these material and explore them at their own pace. In the short term, students will be engaged by something dramatically different from the traditional classroom instruction they are used to seeing. In the long term, enhanced student learning will be attained through tailored instruction based on learning needs and styles.
