    My Students

The Kindergarten & Grade 1's at Sunnyside are an extremely curious group of young learners. We represent a wide range of families who are young, ambitious, and diverse within our school's community. Through this diversity; curiosity, intrigue, and the sense of wonder, are common attributes we all share. We want to make sense of complex ideas, with purposeful play-based learning, and utilize materials in ways that spark further imagination, exploration, questioning, and problem solving.

How will this project impact them?

Creative building experiences help our young learners grow with hands-on, creative, cooperative, and play based systems of learning. We better understand concepts such as shape, weight, size, texture, balance, and height while we recreate familiar, well-known, or imagined structures. Exploratory and discovery building materials allow us to practice thinking like builders, scientists, engineers and architects. As we make predictions and test our hypothesis, we use unique building supplies in various configurations in an open-ended style of learning. Investigating the use of ramps, stands, and spheres helps us to reinforce our knowledge of forces, motion, gravity, and friction through our very own practices. The greater range of building supplies we can make use of in our environment, the greater the possibilities are for continued wonder, growth, and irreplaceable learning.
