  • My Class Needs a camera that can shoot 60 frames/second to observe motion slowed down for analysis

    Launched October 25th, 2017 Project Deadline January 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 1331 Students

    My Students

Fleetwood's Science department has 14 teachers teaching 60 classes of Science from grades 8 to 12. The entire science department would benefit from a high shutter speed camera that can play back chemical reactions that happen too quickly for the 'naked eye' to observe. In addition all grade levels have investigations of natural motion (in the physics sections) that would benefit from looking at slow motion playback captured from a high speed camera.

How will this project impact them?

With the implementation of an inquiry based curriculum, our science department has been shifting towards students doing hands-on, self-directed experimentation in science. We are trying to find a better way to share each group’s results with the class. With a good camera that has fast video recording capabilities, students could record their chemical reactions for chemistry inquiries, motion for physics inquiries, and growth of bacteria or other biology inquiries and then use the camera’s frame rates to create slow motion videos of high speed events or time lapse videos of slow events They could also zoom in on small scale reactions to get a better view of what is happening. With these tools, they will be able to gather better data from their experiments with the new perspectives offered and get a better appreciation of their results, as well as other groups.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
