  • My Class Needs power tools to bring their engineering ideas to life.

    Launched October 12th, 2017 Project Deadline January 30th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 37 Students

    My Students

Our students seek a school environment that is a small community. Some students have been home-schooled or have been in programs of choice while others want a different vision of education. Our students seek opportunities to self-direct their studies and take on personally meaningful projects. They want to learn by doing rather than just hearing about something. In addition, they are interested in engineering and computer science. The barriers are time and access to equipment.

How will this project impact them?

The goals for the project are: 1) Practice a design process - identifying a problem, generating solutions (ideation), prototyping a solution, collecting feedback, and reiteration, and 2) Develop skills in drafting, CAD design, and using power tools. Benefits include: opportunities to learn how to design and build things for others and relevant experience in STEM to help with further education and career goals. In the short-term, we will add more capacity to our tool library. In the long-term, our students will develop skills needed to take on bigger projects that require fabricating a prototype out of wood, metal and other materials. Community effects include: Increasing the visibility of STEM projects by designing and building a tiny house or camper with electrical, heating, ventilation, plumbing, etc., constructing a wind turbine or weather monitoring station, or putting together a go kart.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
