  • My Class Needs building materials and manipulatives to explore STEM and Science

    My Students

My class is made up of 28 active and busy students who love to be moving and using their hands. They come from a variety of backgrounds and have a diverse set of interests. Many of them are into athletics in some capacity, and all of them dive into any opportunity to build or explore things with their hands. This is particularly important this year, as there are many learners for whom English is a second language, and collaborating while building gives them a chance to connect with others while exploring and learning.

How will this project impact them?

I am always looking for ways to make learning concrete and connected to the real world for my kids. I try and connect our STEM activities to real world problems in order to foster students' abilities to look around them, identify a need, and have the confidence to jump in and figure out a solution. Resources that support hands-on learning give them the opportunity to do just that: jump in and try. It also allows us to work on developing perseverance, which is necessary in everything they do. When they learn through building, the results are tangible and they can tinker until they get it to meet their goal. Learning through building will also help to foster a collaborative community in which they will increasingly rely on each other to solve problems and develop the core competencies that weave through all aspects of the curriculum, while engaging all learners regardless of language.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
