  • My Class Needs special education materials to become successful academic learners.

    Launched October 12th, 2017 Project Deadline January 10th, 2018
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 165 Students

    My Students

I work with a variety of students with special needs in grades K-5. Students on my caseload may have ADHD, autism, neurlogical developmental disorders, behavioral difficulties and/or processing difficulties, making it difficult for them to attend & fully access classroom activities. The students I work with need adaptations in their classroom and supplies for sensory breaks in order to become and remain a self-regulated learners, allowing them to access all school activities and academics.

How will this project impact them?

With the requested materials, our students will become more self-regulated and independent learners in all subject areas. These students with special needs will be able to better attend to their friends and teachers at school, fulfilling the Personal and Social Core Competencies laid out in the new BC Curriculum. They will learn to engage in a sensory break and/or use the adaptive materials with support and eventually independently. The short-term benefits are engaged learners who will have fewer distractions, fulfilled sensory needs, and more access to classroom activities. The long-term benefits are creating independent and self-regulated students who will recognize and advocate for their needs, assisting them in becoming effective lifelong learners. Self-regulated learning is recognized as an important predictor of student academic motivation and achievement.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
