  • My Class Needs STEM materials to develop problem solving & comm. skills

    Launched October 10th, 2017 Project Deadline February 16th, 2018
Classroom Size 32 Students School Size 265 Students

    My Students

We have started to build a community of learners using STEM manipulatives and experiments! We have a combination of equipment that we have bought as well as created ourselves. It's amazing to see our students engaged in this type of hands on learning. We have a very high population of English Language Learners who benefit greatly for having opportunities to engage in hands on activities and to orally discuss what they are doing!

How will this project impact them?

The STEM centres have been set up in the Library Learning Commons and classes have been using the materials on a rotational bases! But we do not have enough centres! Students are eager to take their turn problem solving at the STEM centres and do not want to leave when their time is up! We have started to see gains in students ability to communicate, cooperate, and problem solve as they work through these centres and are very excited to continue with these activities! Teachers have seen some of the STEM centre skills translate into skills that students are using in class, specifically in science and math, but also into all other subjects.
