  • My Class Needs Spheros to facilitate library STEM Projects

    Launched October 11th, 2017 Project Deadline December 31st, 2017
Classroom Size 2000 Students School Size 2034 Students

    My Students

New Westminster Secondary has a student population of over 2000 and the library learning commons is the centre of the school. We are the only high school in the community, so we serve everyone. We have a large population of refugee and immigrant students and many of our students live in poverty. STEM projects such as learning how to code and using our Spheros are very popular. At this time, we only have 2 Spheros for our entire school. Six more will allow for more students come to the library and learn how to use them.

How will this project impact them?

STEM projects can be imbedded into almost every curricular area. Because we only have two right now, only small groups of students can use them. While we can borrow a few more from our Media Centre, it is not really convenient as we have to plan around other schools also needing these resources. As we gather STEM resources, we are able to offer more units of study in the library, as well as potentially offering more extra curricular clubs.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.

Where available, MCN may (at our discretion) suggest lower-cost alternatives that may accomplish the same project goals. Our suggestion of an alternate option is not an endorsement by either MCN or CSC of the supplier, product or service and the final decision on the choice of resource is made by the teacher(s) themselves.
