    My Students

I have an energetic, caring, and creative class full of 15 Kindergartners. We are located in a beautiful forested community and use loose parts and natural resources to springboard our "out of the box" thinking in our Applied Design and Technology curricula. Not only do my students enjoy "loose parts" and natural resources, but they love to explore different learning resources that can stick together, come together with magnets, and can be used to make elaborate contraptions!

How will this project impact them?

STEM in Kindergarten is an important component of the Applied Design and Technology curriculum. Through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, students at all ages are able to think outside the box and successfully create structures and machines. Our class has lots of “loose parts” that we use for our STEM area, but are missing some engaging learning resources like Magnetic Building Blocks, Brain Flakes, STEM Engineering and Design Kits, and critical thinking blocks. Students would be using these learning resources to enrich their STEM experience and explore new materials that are magnetic and thought provoking. Not only will this extend student creativity, but they can compare and contrast the "loose parts” and the Learning Resources purchased, and how different materials can affect various building techniques.
