    My Students

This year, I have a class of 20 grade 3 and 4 students at Capitol Hill Elementary. The children come from many diverse backgrounds and socio-economic realities. Some have families who have lived in the community for generations, while others are new arrivals still learning the language and customs of their new home. Regardless of their situations, they are all curious about the world around them and eager to explore. I endeavour to create a caring and engaging environment for them all.

How will this project impact them?

The students will be using the resources as we form a community of learners and as we discover that the outside world is a vital component of our human world. We will be taking our explorations outside, instead of trying to experience the outdoors through our classroom windows and iPads. Our explorations will be multi-disciplinary. Students will be engaging in all three Core Competencies of British Columbia's new curriculum - Communication, Thinking, and Personal Social. My goal is that we all come away with a greater appreciation of ourselves, our community, and our natural world. I also believe that spending additional time outside each week will have a restorative effect on the students' cognitive functioning. Our outdoor activities have the potential to provide short- and long-term benefits to the students and to the natural world we all inhabit.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
