  • My Class Needs maker space manipulative to learn about science and design processes

Webster's Makerspace Classroom Project at Websters Corner Elementary
    Launched September 12th, 2017 Project Deadline February 9th, 2018
Classroom Size 25 Students School Size 172 Students

    My Students

This project would benefit my class made up of grade 6 and 7 students who are at varying levels of ability and interest in science and science-related topics. Creating activities that are hands-on and implement design, engineering, and imagination are the best way to "win them over" into learning about science and science-related topics without using direct instruction, worksheets, or old-school methods of learning. Having easily adaptable resources that would appeal to many different levels and learning styles would make teaching science much easier but also more genuine.

How will this project impact them?

These resources would help to teach my class about the design process and give them a space to play. Often times, intermediate classes get ignored when it comes to play-based learning but I think it's that hands-on experience that hey really crave and what they need in order to get the most out of their learning. I believe that giving students control over their learning in this way makes the knowledge stick because it's grounded in an experience rather than a homework assignment.

The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds.
