    My Students

My job share partner and I teach a diverse group of grade one and two students at Sunrise Ridge Elementary. Teaching a split class means the range in abilities is that much greater. We feel that this project will help us meet the needs of all learners. We are looking forward to using STEM activities to engage all the different learning styles of our students. The Fairy Tale Stem Kits requested in my project connects to their prior knowledge and will motivate their learning instantly.

How will this project impact them?

We want our students to work collaboratively to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Using the STEM Fairy Tales Problem Solving Kits 1 & 2 from Wintergreen we are hoping all class members will be motivated to create and design ‘happy endings’ for popular fairy tales. For example, working together to build a house that the wolf can’t blow down or designing a way to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river safely. Students will be intrigued by these scenarios because they feel connected to the characters they are trying to help. Students want to ‘show’ people how they figured the problem out. The ipad allows children to collect evidence and share their learning with friends at school, as well as their family at home. It is amazing as teachers to watch the moment when the 'lightbulb' clicks and you can see them saying “oh, that is how that works!".

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
