    My Students

I'm teaching a grade 3 class and every year I have some students with special needs.I spent a lot of time researching and thinking about flexible seating. Last year, I switched my classroom from traditional to flexible seating and I will never go back. Students have been responding with enthusiasm to the new seating arrangements. I noticed a positive impacted on student engagement and learning.

How will this project impact them?

The students are responsible for finding what feels best for them and what kind of seating will make them the best learner that they can be. They are sitting in a place that allows them to focus and work hard on the task at hand. The room has become “ours” instead of “mine,” and this has given my students a sense of ownership and enabled them to become invested in their own education. From sitting the floor, to a chair, to simply standing at a desk, students are able to choose how they want to learn and work, which increases intrinsic motivation and productivity. Flexible seating allows students to collaborate without distracting the rest of the class because students are able to work next to their peers.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
