    My Students

My 21 French Immersion students go to school in a sub-urban neighbourhood in South Western British Columbia. They love hands on activities, and they are engaged by technology. They will become part of a philosophical shift that is happening here in British Columbia. The shift is simply that our curriculum has been re-designed to include more of an emphasis on design skills, creativity, problem solving, and the exploration of computational thinking.

How will this project impact them?

I plan on having my students use “Makedo Cardboard Construction Kits” to build a cardboard city or village. After building they will code Sphero robots to drive through and to interact with their creations. In the short-term, my students will explore current curricular outcomes in all subject areas. For example, they will access their problem solving, engineering, scientific, artistic, mathematical, and language arts skills while building a city and programming a Sphero. In the long-term, my students will develop positive attitudes towards learning, and they will develop their coding, design and creation skills. This development will be an asset to them as they proceed through their many years of school. I hope to share my class' project with my colleagues both informally, and formally. In this way, the school and community will benefit from the project as well.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
