  • My Class Needs technology to help students create interactive reports

    Launched August 1st, 2017 Project Deadline December 31st, 2017
Classroom Size 25 Students School Size 300 Students

    My Students

My students have diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Some have had a broad exposure to the world while others have been very limited. This is also true for their level of exposure to technology. Students are most motivated when using a hands on approach. This can be a challenge to provide when you do not have access to specific teaching materials. This project will help me provide the resources needed to meet the individual needs of my students and prepare them for the modern world.

How will this project impact them?

My goal is for students to take an active role in their own learning. Instead of just reading about the Beothuk, they will play the part of anthropologists who travel back and forth in time to study this extinct culture. They will create an exhibit to display their findings. A major component will be creating interactive reports, through "Scratch" coding and "Makey Makey" technologies. In their various roles, students will meet and study characters from the past (both European and Beothuk). While role playing, they will practice and learn the following skills: Developing and posing questions, collecting and recording scientific data, improving their observation and research skills and reporting. Students will learn how to meet deadlines, work independently and as members of a team, and create reports. This teaching method will make historic events more meaningful to the students.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
