    My Students

Richard McBride Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school with both mainstream and Montessori classes. Every class comes to the library for approximately 50 minutes each week, during which time they would have access to the requested materials. All students are fully integrated into classes, so we have a wide range of student abilities and interests using the library during each block. Additionally, we have numerous English Learners and students with special learning needs in each class.

How will this project impact them?

These materials will be used to teach coding to students during library collaboration blocks. Coding is part of the ADST curriculum and elementary students need the chance to use hands-on materials to reinforce the lessons they learn using computers alone. In addition, the robots will be available during makerspace times, which are unstructured, free work times during which students can pursue their own coding interests. I believe that allowing students to work in a makerspace environment will allow them to explore the BC curriculum's core competencies of creative and critical thinking and communicating while engaging in projects of their own choosing.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
