  • My Class Needs sensory aids to self-regulate in the classroom.

    My Students

My English class contains 24 amazing students that come from varied ability backgrounds. Numerous students display overactive and anxious behaviours. For many students, learning in the vibrant environment offered by 24 students can be too stimulating, even overwhelming. However, given a variety of aids, from sensory items to safe spaces, these children can adapt and learn to cope, participating actively in the bustling environment of an intermediate classroom. They can learn to self-regulate.

How will this project impact them?

My goal with this proposal is to gather sensory aids to help those children that need assistance in monitoring their anxiety levels, the noise levels around them, and the space they work in. For many children working in a busy classroom is not possible. Yet, if they can block out noise, they can calm themselves. If they can put up a temporary wall on their desk, they can create private space free of visual distraction. Some students must "fidget" in order to focus, thus creating kits of fidget tools will help students ready themselves to be receptive to those around them. For some, to verbally express their feelings is very challenging, so providing them tools that give colour signals for moods (identifying their Zone of Regulation), allows those around them to adapt. All of these tools that we can offer children help them self-regulate according to their needs, within the classroom.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
