Learning with Nature Classroom Project at Redwater School

    My Students

The students at Redwater School range from grades 5 to 12 with an overall small population for the entire school. Some class sizes are larger then others but overall there is a strong sense of community in our school. Redwater students are engaged in a variety of sports, academics, and volunteer work. However, we have recognized the need for our students to learn how to develop a healthy balance between work, play, and technology use and we believe that providing them with an outdoor classroom to explore learning and connect with the nature will help to find create this balance.

How will this project impact them?

This project is incredibly important to Redwater School. We recognize the important to provide students with interactive project based activities to help foster engagement and a love for life long learning. The creation of the outdoor classroom will allow us to provide an educational environment for our students where they can learn in a different environment, in a collaborative, project based community, while developing an appreciation and connection to the natural world. The short term benefits are the increased engagement and improved attendance from our students who are excited to come to school. The long term benefits range from a deeper connection to the school community, peer support developed during collaborative learning, increased grades due to the engaging learning environment, and an empathetic and passionate attitude towards environmental stewardship and awareness.

The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds.
