  • My Class Needs Bits and Bots to learn big things!

    Launched May 29th, 2017 Project Deadline December 31st, 2017
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 209 Students

    My Students

Douglas Park is an Inner City School that serves a diverse group of learners. We have a high ratio of students with varied abilities and complex needs including ELL and Refugees. Our school has limited access to up to date tech resources. My students are inquisitive and eager to understand more about the world around them. They are excited by technology, and using it in hands on minds on activities to solve real world problems.

How will this project impact them?

These materials will bridge the gaps that the children may have when it comes to language and ability. They will communicate in the common language of exploration, and share in the excitement of creating, problem solving and collaboration. Through the use of the Little Bits and a Dash robot, students will be able to develop the skills needed for the 21st century through innovative, inquiry based activities that encourage critical and creative thinking skills. Working with the technology will allow students to approach complex design tasks, solve problems and think logically, while building skills in math, science and Applied Skills Design and Technology. It also supports several core competencies, including communication and critical and creative thinking. This technology will also be used in our after school coding explorations program and shared with the other intermediate classes.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
