    My Students

Smithson Public School is a small school in a low-middle income demographic area in Kitchener. My class is a group of 19 wonderful, inquiring Grade Two students from different t background, some with academic and social challenges. We love learning and it has been a goal of mine that we look at current events every week and learn about things happening around the world. We tie this all into our Social Studies curriculum, especially during our Global Communities unit.

How will this project impact them?

We do not currently have a carpet area in our classroom and one is much needed. When I saw this product I immediately saw it as an opportunity for students to enhance their learning of countries and continents as well as map features. Students enjoy working on the floor and this carpet provides them a great opportunity to develop geographical knowledge without realizing they are. An expensive item like this is a dream item for a small school and students would take responsibility for keeping it in tip-top shape. One of the main goals is to have a proper floor seating area that would be comfortable. The learning that can go on with an alphabet border and a map of the continents is, in my opinion endless. Students can measure distances, create games using the continents. In the long term, this would stay with Grade Twos and continue to be a long term resource for Social Studies.

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.
