    My Students

Dutch Settlement Elementary is a small rural school with approximately 135 students. We, as a staff, try to expose our students to as many things as we can, as some don't have easy access to them at home. As technology is becoming an every day aspect in our lives, we recognize the importance of having introduction in the early years.

How will this project impact them?

As coding and technology are becoming an ever more important part of our everyday lives, having tools to help students explore and learn about coding would be a benefit to prepare them for the future. Having the opportunity to start seeing and exploring what is involved in coding will help the students to build their interest in this area,

    Project Report

    from Mrs. MacInnes

Myself and a fellow teacher at Dutch Settlement Elementary have been working to learn with the students all that the new resources we have been provided with can do. We are so happy to see that the students in coding club are not afraid to take risks and are figuring out how to do things we didn’t know that the robots could do.
Our coding club meets every two weeks at lunchtime. The students are excited to come in and get their hands on the dash & dot and the Ozobots. They began by trying out the tutorials provided within the programs, but quickly started to venture out on their own, creating programming to have dash do something they wanted it to do.
This problem solving and creativity is exactly what we were hoping for with embarking on this coding club.
I love that when they bell rings to signal the end of lunchtime, the students groan as they don’t want to stop! They also then ask before running out of the room if they can continue to work with the robots at the next club meeting!
