  • My Class Needs field trip funds for junior students to help learn about our local waterways

    My Students

Our entire school is participating in this project, but these funds are being specifically allocated to our Junior students who are wishing to attend the program. Our school is a Kindergarten to Grade 5, located in a newer neighbourhood in Kitchener Ontario. Our students are passionate, and very busy, with their interests, with a major focus being school, sports and music. We are trying to continue to build an interest in the outdoors, and caring for the environment amongst our students.

How will this project impact them?

This is an eco-awareness project, focusing on teaching students about their local waterways. The program is aimed at creating stewards of the environment, and to teach others in the community about their impact on the environment. This project also brings our school together as a community, by creating an artistic mural with "Dreamfish" (wooden fish, each painted by the school), representing our hopes and dreams, and how we all have a communal responsibility to care for the environment. The money we are asking for, goes to pay for the actual informative discussion to come to our school, to teach our students. The cost per student is $7.00 each, and therefore at a population of 736, we require a large fund to pay for this program. We are looking to raise funds to send our junior students to the program, and use our other fundraising efforts towards our primary students.

    Project Report

    from Mrs. Barr

The Stream of Dreams Project is complete! We worked hard to complete our fish fence, and it is truly a work of art. The money we received paid for students to attend the program. The program arrived at our school, and for three days, all students in
the school rotated through the educational component, learning about our local waterways, and the potential impact of humans on the environment. After this talk, the students moved to the art room, and chose a wooden fish to paint, representing
themselves and their dreams for the future. At the end of the program, we mounted all the fish together on our school fence, as a visual reminder of our responsibility to care for the environment. Without the money towards our project, we would not
have been able to afford to have all students participate in the process. Our students love to look, and talk about the fish on the fence. It creates daily conversations, and overall, has a positive impact on our community!
