  • My Class Needs Cubulets to Develop problem solving skills

    Launched April 27th, 2017 Project Deadline August 31st, 2017
Classroom Size 300 Students School Size 555 Students

    My Students

Our school is located in the inner city of Hamilton, Ontario. Our students do not always have access to technology. They are very interested in robotics and coding, we have clubs that meet on a regular bases to explore these subjects. We have been developing a maker space for students to experiment with STEAM subjects through both tech and non tech materials. Students are excited to use the materials we have and are grateful for any new materials we are able to bring in.

How will this project impact them?

In our school library we are building and creating a maker space with tech and non-tech items. Creating this space has allowed us to develop a culture of STEAM within our school community. Our students really enjoy being able to tinker and play around with materials to solve real life problems. I believe cubelets are a natural addition to our maker space and will support our goal of creating STEAM projects in our classrooms. With cubelets students will be able to experiment with putting together a robot as well as develop skills such as innovation, communication and collaboration by working together to figure out how to put the cubelets together. Students will also be able to develop their problem solving skills to figure out how the cubelets go together. Having cubelets in our school library will allow everyone in the school to access the robots and experiment with them regularly.

    Project Report

    from Mrs. Geddes

Thank you to My Class Needs and Wintergreen! We were so excited to get the cubelets that we asked for. It is definitely one of the most popular materials in our makerspace and library. The students really enjoyed problem solving to figure out what cubes they had to put together to make a robot move or light up. They are excited to see what other cubes we can add to our collection and how that will change our the robots work. Our students wouldn't have had this experience if it wasn't for My Class Needs and Wintergreen! Thank you so much for supporting out school, everyone appreciates it!!
