  • My Class Needs science resources to learn how important our environment is!

    Launched March 14th, 2017 Project Deadline May 28th, 2017

    My Students

I have a grade 2/3 classroom that learns outside once a week. I believe that learning outside has increased student engagement and their need to take care of their community and planet. I have found that children have spent more time indoors and playing video games and are needing more time to develop socially and to learn about our world. My students love going outside to learn in our "outdoor classroom". I enjoy teaching them this way but, I now find that I am needing more supplies to do so.

How will this project impact them?

With the resources that I'm asking for, I believe that I can teach my students to gain a deeper understanding about our community, world and nature. They will have more opportunities to learn outside and to explore their surroundings. They will gain a more scientific understanding about the environment around them. This is the first time my school has tried having an "outdoor classroom" and there is another teacher that is joining me. These resources will be shared amongst the teachers that want to educate outside. I believe that the opportunity for these students to explore and investigate their environment will create a life long learning process and appreciation for their community and their environment.

    Project Report

    from Ms. Maxwell

The new resources we received have given my students a deeper knowledge of our nature. They are able to use magnifying glasses to look into the grass and plants to examine the life taking place there. My students are so excited to use the microscopes and have never had the chance to use them before. When my student looked through the microscope at a plant slide, they exclaimed, "Look! You can see the inside of nature!" They want to examine everything and are coming up with "deeper thinking" questions. They want to preserve nature and their environment. They think about their actions in regards to their environment. Thank you for giving them this experience!

    * Fulfillment Materials: This covers the physical costs of processing teacher and student thank-you letters and pictures, including printing, postage, labels, envelopes, cover sheets, etc.

** Payment Processing Fee: An average of fees charged to MyClassNeeds for processing donations (e.g. credit card payments through a secure server). We have worked hard to select the most secure option for the cost.

*** Optional Donation: An optional donation to support MyClassNeeds which is calculated at 15% of the project’s price tag. The optional contribution supports the work we do to engage teachers, build awareness, and to generally run MyClassNeeds. To do that we need a world- class website supported by strong business systems and processes that improve over time.

I am an elementary teacher in the South Okanagan. I work in a lovely grade 2/3 class. I believe students learn best when they get to explore and are able to relate their learning to the real world. My job is to provide experiences where my students become engaged and want to know more....
