  • My Class Needs Experinece in a Marine Ecosystem to Engage in Scientific Inquiry

    Launched February 19th, 2017 Project Deadline May 5th, 2017
Classroom Size 30 Students School Size 252 Students

    My Students

A motivated and engaged group of students from a variety of backgrounds. A caring classroom community interested in experiential outdoor education at Camp Elphinstone. Students are eager to engage in skill building, cooperative learning and scientific inquiry. They are hoping spend a few days at a camp to engage in a variety of cooperative and individual outdoor education exercises and to immerse themselves in a marine ecosystem for hands-on learning and first-hand observations.

How will this project impact them?

Students will make connections to physiographic features, natural resources & economic development. They will develop problem-solving & decision-making strategies & demonstrate emergent leadership skills. Archery & canoeing will allow students to develop skills through practice, effort & action, and to reflect on positive aspects of outdoor exercise for well-being. A Marine Beach Study will connect students to the idea that all living things sense & respond to their environment. They will observe & experience environmental features of aquatic/marine biomes & local earth materials. Students will demonstrate curiosity about the natural world; Make observations about living & non-living things; Experience & interpret local environment; Identify simple environmental implications of human actions; Transfer & apply learning to new situations; Express & reflect on shared experiences of place.
