    My Students

Mountainside Secondary is an Alternative School in North Vancouver. All our students weren't finding success in mainstreams schools. We provide an alternate setting to try to accommodate to the needs or our variety of students. Many students are considered "at risk". Many of these students needs hands on activities in order to be successful learning and I hope to provide anther great hands on activity for them.

How will this project impact them?

In the new BC curriculum there is a new science course Environmental Science 11. I am developing the course for next year and will be putting a big focus on sustainability. Following this theme I will be starting a bee hive on the school grounds. The students will learn the basics of bee keeping and then develop projects to work with the honey and bees wax we collect. We will invite members of the community to help with the bee hive and support the learning. Our students at mountainside work well with hands on activities and we can make many connections to the curriculum with this project.

I am the science support teacher at mountainside secondary. I have been working in the alternative school setting for 15 years now. Over that time I have learned the value of hands on activities for our students.
